A London 2012 torch lantern, used specifically to preserve, protect and transport the Olympic Flame on its relay journey, the type 6 brass and glass lantern with internal mesh and oil reservoir, with two applied plaques, one engraved with London 2012 logo and OLYMPIC TORCH RELAY, and the other THE PROTECTOR LAMP & LIGHTING CO LTD ECCLES, TYPE 6, in a custom made fitted flight case bearing the London 2012 and Olympic rings symbols and a spare plaque engraved with the London 2012 PARALYMPIC TORCH RELAY, this is 1 of 11 lanterns in existence, with COA, torch height: 25 cm, case: 38 x 17.5 x 17 cm This lantern was used for transporting the Olympic Flame via British Airways flight BA2012 from Athens to Royal Naval Air Station Culdrose, near Helston, Cornwall where the aircraft was met by some of the Great Britain's most esteemed dignitaries and sporting icons, including The Princess Royal, David Beckham, Lord Coe, Boris Johnson and Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg. The Torch Relay embarked on its 70 day journey through Great Britain before arriving at the Olympic Stadium, London. Made and patented by the British firm The Protector Lamp and Lighting Company Ltd of Eccles, Manchester, the company which has been used for the safe transport of the Olympic flame for the past 30 years.
