14x33R caliber, 21.5" barrel secured by two clamping bands, no S/N. Blued finish, color casehardened lock and breech block. Tang marked with the contractor name "JOS SCHIENIGG", nocksform with Austrian "W" inspection mark and dated "68" for the year of conversion from percussion to cartridge. Lock dated "866" for 1866, when the gun was originally produced in percussion. Equipped with a French adjustable ladder rear sight, a drift adjustable front sight blade in a fixed base, two sling swivels and an English Snider-Enfield style cleaning rod that has been shortened to fit the gun. An interesting variant of an Austrian M1862/67 Extra Corps carbine with a pair of Enfield-style clamping bands and Enfield-style nose cap replacing the standard Austrian Lorenz pattern flat barrel band and nose cap, with the Austrian nose cap spring mortise neatly filled in the stock. Also mounted with what appears to be an arsenal added French rear sight, suggesting possible capture, reconditioning and reissue to rear echelon troops during the Franco Prussian War or possibly the Great War.

Condition: Fine as refurbished. Retains much of the arsenal applied blue and some vivid case color. Markings clear, mechanically functional, good bore with scattered oxidation. Stock with some light handling marks.

EST $700 - 1200
