.32RF caliber, 6" barrels, S/N 48918 & 48517 (both mfg. ca 1866). Blued finish, varnished rosewood grips. Six-shot, single action rimfire revolvers in a French fitted retailer's casing. Standard Smith & Wesson one-line address on barrel ribs, standard patent roll mark on cylinders. Both revolvers with matching assembly marks on barrel, cylinder and frame. Both revolvers with right grip stamp numbered to the gun on its interior. Revolvers contained in a varnished Mahogany veneer case with a purple fitted interior along with two lidded compartments and a cartridge block that holds 26 cartridges. Includes 26 cartridges in the block, four additional cartridges in one lidded compartment and a tin oiler and two keys in the other lidded compartment. Neither key fits the lock for the case. A really lovely cased set of 6" barreled #2 revolvers made in the year following the end of the Civil War that retain much of their finish and are displayed in their wonderful period casing with a nice assortment of later 19th century cartridges.

Condition: Fine. Both revolvers retain much of their blued finish, with the majority of the loss on the cylinders, and from flaking and wear on the revolvers. #48918 has a spot of cleaned pitting on the right side of the frame behind the cylinder, where the finish is gone, and light pitting remains. This is about .5" in diameter. Both revolvers with clear, legible markings, both mechanically functional with tight actions and fine bores. Both sets of grips are fine as well with light handling marks. Case about very good with a crack running the length of the top veneer and a heavily faded interior from deep purple to a dull grayish-purple color. There is also some chipping at the lower left front corner. Green fabric has been glued to the soft wood bottom of the case.

EST $2500 - 5000
