Pennsylvania Swivel Breech Percussion Double Rifle by Young

Lot # 1025 (Sale Order: 26 of 837)

.45 cal, 37" deeply rifled octagon barrels with oxidized bores. The barrels are a soft brown patina with overall very light stabilized oxidation, each stamped "D Young", the under barrel stamping slightly soft. Each features a German silver thin blade front sight and semi-buckhorn v-notch rear, with a very light incise engraving around the rear sight. The barrel frame and back action lockplate are a similar plum brown patina as-is the lightly engraved long upper tang. The lightly engraved hammer is now a darker gunmetal gray showing damage to its skirt from the nipple. There are brass ramrod thimbles and a brass center rib on the barrels with the triggerguard showing a single forward spur and rearward grip flourish. There is a three-piece patchbox with pierced head, lightly faceted buttplate, simple toeplate and a large engraved brass sideplate. The patchbox release is an ivory-tipped button which protrudes through the toeplate. The curly maple stock rates very good with strong remnants of original varnish in the protected areas, with the expected light dings and handling marks from the years. There are two lozenge-shaped German silver inlays at the wrist and three inlays on the square-bottomed cheekpiece, one oval and two arrow-head; there was an additional triangular inlay at the rear of the tang which is no longer present. The arm is equipped with a dual acting lock and double set triggers which work very well and the swivel mechanism works as-designed. According to Sellers "D. Young", maker of percussion fullstock and swivel breech rifles, was active in Middleburg Pennsylvania from 1816-1831. A quality made antique Pennsylvania swivel breech rifle with an attractive honest look. (37479-2) {ANTIQUE}

Unmarked Over-Under Percussion Buck And Ball Rifle

Lot # 1026 (Sale Order: 27 of 837)

.42 cal. rifled and .45 cal. smoothbore, 28" barrels with bright very good plus to near excellent rifle bore which shows only some light oxidation, the smoothbore very similar. The barrels are a mix of deep soft plum brown patina and dark gunmetal gray with minor oxidation and numerous scattered light handling marks, near overall, from the years. The right side of the barrels has three soft-soldered ramrod thimbles which retain what is likely the original ramrod. The back action locks, tang and hammers are all a deep gray patina, the hammers with some light brown oxidation. The single rearward flourish triggerguard, crescent butt, toeplate and pendulum-style patchbox are a dull goldenrod patina and quite nice. The walnut buttstock remains very good with minor handling marks and a few chips here or there but they are tiny and unobtrusive. Equipped with double triggers which operate each lock independently, the gun seems to function well mechanically. There are modern sights in place and sling swivels applied to the left side of the gun during the period of use; the antique lollipop tang sight is in place at the rear. A neat, sadly unmarked, over-under buck and ball rifle overall, no doubt from Pennsylvania or New York State. (38426-51) {ANTIQUE}

Lot # 1028 (Sale Order: 29 of 837)

.44 cal, 43 1/2" octagon barrel, turned for starter, with an oxidized bore. The barrel is primarily a soft plum brown patina with pewter undertones showing scattered light oxidation and pinprick pitting. The unadorned lockplate and hammer are a pewter and soft brown patina showing a bit of oxidation. There is a pewter nosecap and simple iron triggerguard with forward curving spur along with heavy butt and toeplates. The American walnut stock rates very good showing much original varnish and some nice grain along the toeline. St. Louis Percussion Halfstock Percussion Plains Rifle by Albright

Lot # 1029 (Sale Order: 30 of 837)

.48 cal, 27" octagon barrel with an oxidized bore. The barrel is an overall deep plum patina toning to blue at its rear, with toning to pewter on the sharp edges. It shows remnants of pinprick pitting and light tool marks and at least one filled dovetail. It currently has a silver blade front sight which shows a soldered repair and a shallow semi-buckhorn rear. It is marked on its top flat, somewhat lightly after the cleaning, "J Albright/St. Louis" along with "Cast Steel". The spartan lockplate is a similar plum and brown patina and there is a flat-bottom triggerguard of iron with a single rearward grip flourish. There is a nice crescent buttplate and simple toeplate with a downward-folding iron patchbox present, its catch is no longer present. The American walnut stock rates very good with much original varnish, also with the expected minor dings and handling marks here and there perhaps with a light chip or crack.. The lock is double-acting and the arm is equipped with double set triggers, appearing functional. This is no doubt the work of Thomas John Albright, the "T" lost to the cleaning of the barrel. Albright was from Stroudsburg Pennsylvania and was active in St. Louis Missouri from about the mid-1840s until just after the Civil War. Another interesting halfstock plains rifle when Missouri was the jumping off point for the American West. (37645-3) {ANTIQUE}

The checkered walnut grips are stamp-numbered to the gun and remain in very good condition as lightly refinished with a small chip on the left panel behind the safety, some light dings and handling marks. The rear toggle pin is numbered "70", the barrel is an un-numbered factory replacement and the remaining serialized parts are matching including the grooved firing pin. The pistol is equipped with a sear safety and the magazine safety is mostly present but has been deactivated by cutting the front end off. The frontstrap is marked with Hannover Police "S. H. 1170.", the left side frame is stamped "1920" in addition to the double-dated chamber and the factory barrel is stamped with two "droop wing" Eagle / 6 proofs and a small "PTV" over a faded Imperial eagle. Finally included with this pistol is a Nazi-era blue-bodied aluminum base Haenel magazine that numbered to the gun by both serial number and police inventory number along with an "(Eagle) F" police stamp. This is truly a wonderful police Luger that saw service with every German regime from the Imperial era through to the Weimar Republic and finally the Nazi police. (138050-737) {C&R}

German P.08 Luger Pistol with Unit Markings by DWM

Lot # 1049 (Sale Order: 50 of 837)

serial #4257, 9mm, 4" barrel with a fair bore showing moderate oxidation and good rifling throughout. The metal surfaces of this blank chamber pistol retain about 92% arsenal quality reapplied blue with some high edge wear, light freckling and spots of light to moderate pitting underneath the blue most noticeable on the gripstraps, muzzle and sideplate. The small parts retain some faint straw color with overall silvering, freckling and some tiny pinprick pits while the sear spring shows some hints of fire blue. The checkered walnut grips are stamp-numbered to the gun and are most likely factory replacements not quite perfectly fitted to the frame but still in very good condition with some areas of compressed points, light chipping and handling marks. The DWM logo on the toggle and most of the Imperial proofs are still quite crisp and clear. All of the serialized parts are matching with the exception of the un-numbered grooved firing pin and the frontstrap is stamped with a softened but visible unit mark that reads "97.R.M.G.80.". This is a very early P.08 without a stock lug repurposed for police use with an intact sear safety and includes a single bright-bodied aluminum base magazine numbered to the gun with a Nazi "(Eagle) L" police stamp. Overall a very interesting example that has no doubt been through a number of updates and arsenal refurbishments ultimately seeing some service with Nazi police. (138050-731) {C&R}
