Uncle Toms Cabin 1852

Lot # 6 (Sale Order: 7 of 88)      

Collectible 1st Edition twentieth thousand (3rd printing), Vol. 1 & 2, Uncle Tom's Cabin by Harriet Beecher Stowe, John P. Jewett Company, Boston in 1852. Lincoln is purported to have said when he met the author, "so this is the little lady who started the Big War", meaning the Civil War. Bound in gold stamped cloth, the covers and the spine have some rubbing, (ask for photos) and scuffs. The spines have some slight cloth loss. The inner text is very good, with some occasional foxing, still tight enough for being string bound. Many of these sets even unmatched in quality have sold for $4,000 and more....more

Edgefield Jar attrib. to Dave

Lot # 6A (Sale Order: 8 of 88)      

Edgefield storage jar attributed Dave the Slave circa 1850's Lewis Miles shop, has two medium slashes next to lug handle, also have three rings around top shoulder of jar. This jar has to be one of the most lively glaze ive ever seen with eyepoping appeal on all sides of the jar. A stunning rich olive alkaline glaze on the front side of the jar and on the back side a strong coagulating glze in dark rich blackish brown glaze. Note the never changing handles that are smooth style and well placed and that hardly never changes. Very well glazed and fired. A outstanding Dave jar that is in stunning condition with only one minor chip under lug lifter handle, No restorations and No cracks. 10-Edgefield storage jar attributed to Dave the slave, circa 1850's Lewis Miles shop. This jar has two rings around the shoulder great rim, very well balanced lug handles smoothly attached to shoulder of jar. Number 9 and 10 jar has a strong chance of being out of the same kiln fireing, due to that they are the same glazes and strong form. The glaze is a great earthly browninsh alkaline glazw with beautiful light yellowish green runs and pools throughout the jar. Jar is very well potted and glazed.
