American A-2 Pilot's Jacket of Captain J.B. Hodges

Lot # 129 (Sale Order: 127 of 370)

Chest measures 19", sleeve measures 26". Interior label with model information, serial numbers, and size "38" tag.  Includes layered leather China-Burma-India and U.S. Army Air Corps insignia as well as leather Captain's insignia.  Also includes painted 1942 pattern leather Air Transport Command patch. Interior pockets contain U.S. Army Air Corps patch and embroidered China-Burma-India patch.

Very little information can be found regarding Captain Hodges' career.  The patches on the jacket indicate that Hodge's served in the India-China Wing, renamed the India-China Division in 1944.  Responsible for supplying the 10th and 14th Air Forces, the India-China Wing utilized C-54 and C-46 aircraft as they were well-suited to the flying conditions of that region, especially the famous "hump" over the Himalayan mountain of Nepal.  Papers found in the pockets of the jacket indicate that at the end of his service in 1946, Hodges was attached to the 3rd Military Air Transport Service (MAT) headquartered at the 594th Army Air Force (AAF) 594th Base Unit in Topeka, Kansas.  Captain Hodges died in 1996 and is buried in Akron, Ohio.

Condition: Some wear to edges of leather with some additional bloom from age and storage.  Internal liner is in good condition with minimal pulling of stitching.  Some wear to painted name tape.
