RARE JOHN MILES MILITARY TYPE FLINTLOCK PISTOL

Lot # 598 (Sale Order: 628 of 831)

According to the write up in the Flayderman's guide, Miles supplied 250 pairs of flintlock pistols to the State of Virginia in 1800-1801. These were made in Philadelphia and quantity made is unknown. The lock is stamped Miles Phila. The barrel measures 9 3/4" and the bore measures .62. The stock has a distinctively military look. The last listed value in good condition was $7,000.00. This example would better fit the relic category. The lock, hammer, pan and frizzen are a dark, dark patina with sharp legends. The brass front thimble is still present but deformed. The trigger still proturdes but no guard. The dark barrel has a P stamped on left side and " 4 V REG" stamped on top of barrel. (4th Virginia Regiment?) The almost black brass side plate is still present. The stock is missing the pommel, the last 2" of wood on fore-end is missing and rough at the break. The barrel looks like a dug up in that it actually has a textured appearance. Rare, yes. Condition, not so much but you are not likely to ever see another. It is a government contract 1800-1801 pistol made for the State of Virginia and was most likely found outdoors or in a barn for who knows how long. Interesting and rare piece.

OAK CASED VINTAGE 45-70 NAVAL CO. LINE GUN

Lot # 607 (Sale Order: 638 of 831)

This is an older line throwing gun made by the NAVEL CO. ROSLYN PA. that is based on the H&R single shot break open action that is chambered for the .45-70 blanks. It's Naval purpose was to shoot lines across to other ships. The patent number on this gun dates to 1930 so it is safe to presume it was made prior to WWII. It features a very heavy full metal butt-stock, a case color frame with blue barrel that is in the white the last 3 1/2" where it is turned down to accept projectile. The stock has numerous nicks and handling marks while the case colors are still brilliant and the barrel retains virtually all of it's original blue with light handling marks. It comes in it' s original fitted oak case with two old large brass spools of line, four large cartridge type line weights, 20 blank 45-70 rounds , metal rods and cleaning kit. This would be quite a conversation piece in any gun or Naval collection.
