A London 2012 torch lantern, used specifically to preserve, protect and transport the Olympic Flame on its relay journey, the type 6 brass and glass lantern with internal mesh and oil reservoir, with two applied plaques, one engraved with London 2012 logo and OLYMPIC TORCH RELAY, and the other THE PROTECTOR LAMP & LIGHTING CO LTD ECCLES, TYPE 6, in a custom made fitted flight case bearing the London 2012 and Olympic rings symbols and a spare plaque engraved with the London 2012 PARALYMPIC TORCH RELAY, this is 1 of 11 lanterns in existence, with COA, torch height: 25 cm, case: 38 x 17.5 x 17 cm This lantern was used for transporting the Olympic Flame via British Airways flight BA2012 from Athens to Royal Naval Air Station Culdrose, near Helston, Cornwall where the aircraft was met by some of the Great Britain's most esteemed dignitaries and sporting icons, including The Princess Royal, David Beckham, Lord Coe, Boris Johnson and Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg. The Torch Relay embarked on its 70 day journey through Great Britain before arriving at the Olympic Stadium, London. Made and patented by the British firm The Protector Lamp and Lighting Company Ltd of Eccles, Manchester, the company which has been used for the safe transport of the Olympic flame for the past 30 years.

The World Lightweight Championship of the World boxing belt won by Ken Buchanan of Scotland in 1970, the silkwork belt with large central medallion surmounted by a spread eagle, inscribed THE RING, MAGAZINE AWARD WORLD LIGHTWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP WON BY KEN BUCHANAN OF SCOTLAND, chained to two smaller medallions either side, inscribed OUTPOINTED ISMAEL LAGUNA OF PANAMA IN 15 ROUNDS, IN SAN JUAN, PUERTO RICO, SEPTEMBER 26 1970, mounted in a gilt box frame, 45 by 77 by 6cm. Provenance: Acquired directly from Ken Buchanan by the presented vendor. Ken Buchanan MBE (b.1945), a Scottish former undisputed world lightweight champion, with a total of 61 wins and 8 losses in his professional career. Being the ABA featherweight champion in 1965, he started his professional career on the 20th September 1965 beating Brian Tonks by knockout in the 2nd round in London. He outpointed John McMillan on 23rd January 1967 over 10 rounds in his Scottish debut fight. His winning streak of 23 consecutive fights came before he challenged Maurice Cullen on 19th February 1968 for the British lightweight title in London, when he knocked out Cullen in the 11th round and became a world classified lightweight challenger. He continued up the lightweight rankings by defeating Leonard Tavarez, Angel Robinson Garcia and Ivan Whiter and others. On the 29th January 1970 in Madrid he was defeated by the WBC junior welterweight champion Miguel Velasquez for the European lightweight title, when he lost the 15 round decision. Although he continued his progress to No.1 in the rankings by beating Tavarez in a rematch, Chris Fernandez and Brian Hudson whom he defeated by knockout in defence of the British lightweight title. On the 26th September 1970 in Puerto Rico, Buchanan defeated the world lightweight champion Ismael Laguna by a 15 round decision to become the world's lightweight champion. He went on to defeat Ruben Navarro in Los Angeles on 12th February 1971 in defending the WBA championship and acquired the vacant WBC championship becoming the undisputed world lightweight champion. After which he was allowed to the world championship fight in Great Britain where he defeated Carlos Morocho Hernandez the former world junior welterweight champion in round 8 by knockout at Wembley on 11th May 1971. Buchanan was stripped of his WBC title on 25th June 1971 for failing to defend the title against Pedro Carrasco but remained the WBA world lightweight champion and defended the title against Laguna on the 13th September 1971 in New York. On the 26th June 1972 in Madison Square Garden a controversial fight against the undefeated Roberto Duran was contested, Duran went to win this fight. During the 1970's Burchanan had various bouts to defend the world lightweight championship throughout the world, beating Jim Watt, Tavarez and in 1973 beating Antonio Puddu in Italy he acquired the European lightweight championship belt. Buchanan retired in 1976, returning in 1978 for a short period until 1982, he was elected to the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 2000.

He continued up the lightweight rankings by defeating Leonard Tavarez, Angel Robinson Garcia and Ivan Whiter and others. On the 29th January 1970 in Madrid he was defeated by the WBC junior welterweight champion Miguel Velasquez for the European lightweight title, when he lost the 15 round decision. Although he continued his progress to No.1 in the rankings by beating Tavarez in a rematch, Chris Fernandez and Brian Hudson whom he defeated by knockout in defence of the British lightweight title. On the 26th September 1970 in Puerto Rico, Buchanan defeated the world lightweight champion Ismael Laguna by a 15 round decision to become the world's lightweight champion. He went on to defeat Ruben Navarro in Los Angeles on 12th February 1971 in defending the WBA championship and acquired the vacant WBC championship becoming the undisputed world lightweight champion. After which he was allowed to the world championship fight in Great Britain where he defeated Carlos Morocho Hernandez the former world junior welterweight champion in round 8 by knockout at Wembley on 11th May 1971. Buchanan was stripped of his WBC title on 25th June 1971 for failing to defend the title against Pedro Carrasco but remained the WBA world lightweight champion and defended the title against Laguna on the 13th September 1971 in New York. On the 26th June 1972 in Madison Square Garden a controversial fight against the undefeated Roberto Duran was contested, Duran went to win this fight. During the 1970's Burchanan had various bouts to defend the world lightweight championship throughout the world, beating Jim Watt, Tavarez and in 1973 beating Antonio Puddu in Italy he acquired the European lightweight championship belt. Buchanan retired in 1976, returning in 1978 for a short period until 1982, he was elected to the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 2000.

Evander ''The Real Deal'' Holyfield (b. 1962) an American boxer competing from 1984 to 2011, reigned as the undisputed champion at cruiserweight in the late 1980's and at heavyweight in the early 1990's and remains the only boxer to win the undisputed championship in to weight classes. A four time world heavyweight champion having held the unified WBA, WBC and IBF titles from 1990 to 1992. He represented the United States in the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games as an amateur winning the bronze medal in the light heavyweight division, turning professional at 21, moving to cruiserweight in 1985 and won his 1st world championship by defeating Dwight Muhammad Qawi for the WBA title. The boxing trunks and boots worn by Freddie Mills in his last contest with Joey Maxim for the retention of his Light Heavyweight Championship of the World in Earls Court, London on 24th January 1950, comprising a pair of black and red Ampro of London boxing trunks and a signed pair of black leather Ampro boxing boots, both maker's labels signed in ink by Freddie Mills and additionally signed to the sole lining of the boots, lacking original lacing Provenance: Christies 23rd November 2004 Lot 239 (part) Frederick (Freddie) Percival Mills (1919-1965) the English world light heavyweight champion from 1948 to 1950. Started boxing in 1936 with three fights in a 11 stone novices' competition all of which he won by knockout, subsequently signing with Bob Turner on professional terms with fights in fairground booths and at venues on the south coast, mostly as a middleweight and by 1939 was the Western Area middleweight champion, defeating Ginger Sadd the Eastern Area champion in April 1940. He fought Jock McAvoy the British and Commonwealth middleweight champion in Liverpool in August 1940, winning over ten rounds. 1941 saw a new manager Ted Broadribb on board and in September saw his 1st defeat against Jack Hyams, going on to defeat Jim Wilde, Jack London, Tom Reddington and Jock McAvoy. On 20th June 1942 at White Hart Lane for the British and Empire light-heavyweight titles fight he beat Len Harvey on knockout. With the retirement of Len Harvey in 1943, the British and Empire heavyweight titles were vacant and Mills and London were nominated to fight for the titles by the BBBofC, which took place in September 1944 at Kings Hall, Belle Vue, Manchester with Mills awarded the decision after 15 rounds. In 1946 he was given a shot at Gus Lesnevich's world light-heavyweight title at Harringay Arena, London but was defeated with the referee stopping the contest. 1947 saw the focus on the light-heavyweight division with three wins against Enrico Bertola and Nick Wolmarans and one loss to Lloyd Marshall. September 1947 saw a win over Pol Goffaux for the vacant European light-heavyweight title and defended the title in February 1948 against Paco Bueno, then going on to defeat Ken Shaw in a final eliminator for the British title. Then defeating Lesnevich for his 2nd attempt at the world light-heavyweight title at White City Stadium on 28th July 1948. Mills beat Johnny Ralph in Johannesburg in November 1948 in an eliminator for the Empire heavyweight title. In June 1949 Mills challenged Bruce Woodcock for his British, Empire and European heavyweight titles, which was recognized as an eliminator for the British version of the World Heavyweight Championship, fought at White City Stadium but was knocked out in the 14th round. On the 24th January 1950 at Earls Court London Mills took on Joey Maxim but was defeated and his reign as world champion was over and he retired on the 15th February 1950 relinquished his British, European and Empire Light-heavyweight titles.

Henry Cooper defended his heavyweight title on two occasions against Joe Erskine, in 1961 and 1962. It is not known from which one of these bouts that the gloves were worn. Provenance: Formerly on display at the Henry Cooper pub in the Old Kent Road. The current vendor's uncle ran the pub - he was Teddy Haynes, who fought in the same camp as Henry Cooper.

Described in the auction catalogue as being from a fight in Wolverhampton. Roland Dakin was a British Boxing Board of Control referee for 38 years and presided over 40 World Fight titles. He was an avid collector of boxing memorabilia and his professional capacity gave him wonderful access to leading boxing personalities.
