** Engraved Double-Barrel Hammer Shotgun by G.L. Rasch
Lot # 260 (Sale Order: 256 of 370)
Georg Ludwig Martin Rasch (1792-1867) founded "G.L. Rasch-Braunschweig" in the second quarter of the 19th century. A well-respected craftsman, he served as head of the Brunswick gunmaker's guild from 1843-1845. The quality and skill of his work caught the attention of the Ducal family and was later appointed royal gunmaker. Rash made fine arms for several members of the Brunswick royal family.
While the firm manufactured most of its own pieces, later examples show markings of Liege, Suhl, and other popular areas of gun making. This piece was likely made under the ownership of Georg's son, Friederich Martin Ferdinand. Frederich's son Ferdinand was the head of the shop at this time, and as such was likely the maker or assembler of this piece.

German Swivel Breech Flintlock Stalking Gun by Ferdinand Eckart
Lot # 264 (Sale Order: 260 of 370)
Ferdinand Eckart (1731-1799) worked in Bamberg, Bavaria becoming a master gunsmith in 1763. He married Katharina, daughter of Wolfgan Schirmer (1704-1772), another Bamberg gunsmith. The couple had four children, Anton (1766-1807), Joseph (1770-1743), Ferdinand (1772-1830s) and Ernst (1774-1842), all of whom became gun makers as well. As this gun appears to date from the turn of the 19th century it could be the work of either father Ferdinand or son Ferdinand. A really gorgeous and well made swivel breech stalking gun in wonderful condition.

Lot # 266 (Sale Order: 262 of 370)
Condition: Good to very good. Metal with a thinly oxidized brown patina that could be cleaned, as the metal was likely cleaned to bright in the European fashion in the past. Bore very good with scattered light oxidation. Folding butt mechanically functional, although the internal mechanism may be of more recent vintage or restored. Butt exhibits some wiggle when extended and locked in place. Wood very good, with nice lines and crisp carving. Stock shows some scattered bumps, dings and mars, as well as some old wood filler in several locations. A dime-sized section of filler is present at the lower obverse of the butt where it meets the locking collar, with additional filler along the edges of the butt where it meets the buttplate, filling old chips in this area. English Flintlock Blunderbuss by Hudson with Snap Bayonet

Several gunmakers with the surname "Hudson" are listed in Blackmore who worked during the period that this gun was likely produced, circa 3rd-4th quarter of the 18th century, but the most likely maker appears to be Thomas Hudson (2), son of Thomas Hudson (1), who was active in London 1769-1782.
Condition: Good. The brass has a lovely mellow patina throughout. Lock shows some light pitting and erosion, but remains in original flint and is fully functional. Bore is very good with scattered oxidation. Snap bayonet remains functional but the spring is weak and the bayonet must be manually locked in place as spring tension will not fully extend it.
